A custom vinyl figure typically costs USD 3,000–5,000 for your first order of 300 to 500 units. This price covers prototyping, mold fabrication, mass production, painting and basic packaging. Simpler designs with fewer components and colors at higher quantities will cost less. Complex multi-part figures with intricate paint details in small runs will push the price higher.
A key detail many first-time buyers miss: mold creation is a one-time expense. Once molds are finished, repeat orders become far more affordable, as you only pay for raw materials, labor and painting. A reorder of 500 pieces may only cost USD 750–1,750 total, compared to the USD 3,000–5,000 investment for your initial production.
Below is a full breakdown of every cost component to show exactly where your budget goes.
Before mold cutting begins, we produce a physical prototype. Our team takes your 2D artwork or 3D model, creates digital sculpts, 3D prints a sample and hand paints it to match your color requirements. You can review the physical sample, check proportions and approve it or request edits. Most packages include one round of revisions; extra revisions cost USD 50–150 each.
Prototyping usually takes 7–14 days. If you already have a production-ready 3D file, you can skip digital sculpting and save USD 100–300.

This is the largest one-time cost. For rotocast vinyl figures, we machine aluminum or copper alloy molds, with separate cavities for each individual part of your toy.
Every cavity goes through CNC machining, interior polishing and trial PVC test runs. More cavities and complex geometry equal higher mold costs. Mold fabrication takes 20–30 days.
Order volume directly impacts unit price. Below are estimates for medium-complexity figures: 6 inches tall, 5–8 components, 10 color zones. Larger figures cost more per piece; simpler designs cost less.
| Order Quantity | Per-Unit Cost | Total Production Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 300 pcs | USD 4.00–8.00 | USD 1,200–2,400 |
| 500 pcs | USD 3.00–6.00 | USD 1,500–3,000 |
| 1,000 pcs | USD 1.50–3.50 | USD 1,500–3,500 |
| 5,000 pcs | USD 0.80–2.00 | USD 4,000–10,000 |
At 1,000 units, your per-unit cost is roughly half the price at 300 units, thanks to spreading the fixed mold cost across more products.
Packaging is a common area of overspending. Choose options based on what your customers actually need.

Four core variables change your total budget:
Many clients compare rotocast vinyl and injection molded PVC art toys. The better option depends on your order volume.
| Cost Factor | Vinyl (Rotocast) | PVC (Injection Molded) |
|---|---|---|
| Mold Cost | USD 2,000–8,000 | USD 3,000–15,000 |
| Per-unit at 500 pcs | USD 3.00–6.00 | USD 2.00–5.00 |
| Per-unit at 5,000 pcs | USD 0.80–2.00 | USD 0.50–1.50 |
| Best Volume Range | 300–2,000 pcs | 1,000–10,000+ pcs |
Rotocast vinyl works better for runs under 1,000 pieces due to lower mold investment. Injection molded PVC becomes more cost-effective above 5,000 units, with faster falling unit pricing at high volumes. For orders of 1,000–5,000 pieces, get quotes for both processes and compare based on your figure complexity.
