How Big is a 1/6 Scale Figure？
A 1/6 scale figure is produced by scaling down all dimensions of its real-world prototype to one-sixth of the original size. As an example: if an anime character stands 180 cm tall, its corresponding 1/6 scale figure will be 30 cm high (180 ÷ 6 = 30 cm). This scaling rule is widely adopted across collectible figures and models.
The scale figure concept has deep roots in toy industry history. Launched by Mattel in 1959, the Barbie doll set a standard height of 11.5 inches (roughly 29 cm), known as “Playscale”. This specification was later adapted by other companies, including Hasbro, which rolled out the male-oriented G.I. Joe action figure line at the same 11.5-inch height. The term “Sixscale” was subsequently coined for these action figures, crafted to carry a more masculine brand positioning.
By comparison, other scale models follow identical fractional scaling logic, such as the 1/100 Gundam model. The 1/100 marking means the model’s dimensions equal 1/100 of the original. For reference, an anime Gundam with a canonical height of 18.08 meters translates to an 18.08 cm tall 1/100 scale model.
A critical distinction to keep in mind: notations like “1/100” represent a scaled-down replica. In contrast, “100:1” signifies magnification, and this notation is not applicable here.
